Atsuya Furuta, Japanese professional baseball coach. Achievements include the first player-manager in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) League since Katsuya Nomura in 1976; the holder of 16 straight Japanese All-Star games; second catcher in NPB history to reach 2,000 career hits; winner of nine Golden Gloves; Member of the Best Nine 8 times (tied the record for a catcher); winner of 4 Japan Series Championships (1993, 1995, 1997, 2001).
