Atton Antonovich

Background

He wasborn in a noble family in Mogilev region. he graduated from Vitebsk's gymnasia. He studied medicine at Moscow University and Medicine Academy in Saint Petersburg.

Career

In 1866 he started to work as a psychiatrist in Nicolay hospital, In 1881-1901 he became the head of that hospital, it became the basic institution preparation of psychiatrists, doctors and scientific researches. In 1876 Chachot defended a thesis for a degree of Doctor of medicine and became a Doctor of Medicine. The topic of the dissertation was galvanization of sympathetic nerve and its therapeutic effect. In 1882 he got the post of a private-docent in the field of diseases and psychotherapy at academy. For some years he taught a course in nervous diseases medical courses for women. The last of his life he devoted to research and development of medical importance of the Caucausus resorts. Being interested in nature and travelling, he was a member of Russian Geographical Association.His published works are devoted mainly to court-medicine problems and practical psychiatry. The manuscript of the unpublished work by Chacot about the lofe and activity of Ian balinskiy was lost during the October Revolution in 1917.Ian Balinskiy was considered the father of Russian Psychiatry and whom Chachot of written by Ian Balinskiy whom Chachot treated as his teacher. Chachot was one of those scientists and researches, who were the first to raise psychiatry to a high level. Among his numerous pupils were such famous professors as M.M.Popov from Kazan and Y.A.Sicorsky from Kiev.
