He was on the cover of the June 2013 Chess Life, the official magazine of the United States Chess Federation. He has played youth chess championships in Greece and the Republic of Georgia. His father Sharat Shetty, who develops software for Ford, played chess in India as a child.
Atulya Shetty started playing chess when he was four.
Atulya Shetty"s current coach is Grandmaster Gregory Kaidanov, formerly of the Soviet Union who now lives in Kentucky.
