1897 joined Social-Democratic movement. 1905 one of leaders of December uprising at Moscow-Kazan’ Railroad Terminus in Moscow. 1906-1907 worked in textile-workers’ trade union.

Company-founder, Social of Marxist Historians. During 1930's joined in campaign against M.N. Pokrovskiy’s school of history. Head, Chair of History of Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics, Moscow Teachers’ Training Institute.
1937 supervised team of authors who wrote “A Short Course in the History of the Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics for 3rd and 4th Secondary School Grades”.
