He migrated to the U. S. when a youth of nineteen, and after a few years in Independence, Iowa, and a later stay in Chicago, Ill., he arrived in Los Angeles in November of 1882, subsequently decided to establish a permanent residence in the city and open an office for architectural practice. In the following years Mr. Wackerbarth was active mainly in the field of residence work, acquiring a large clientele which numbered many persons of prominence in the city.
Known and respected among his contemporaries in the profession, he was a long-time member of the American Institute of Architects, one of the founders and for many years a Treasurer of the Southern California Chapter, A.I.A.
