Auguste Salzmann traveled to the Holy Land in 1854 with the intent of confirming certain historical theories with regard to the dating of various monuments. His paintings were first accepted in the Paris Salon in 1847, followed by exhibits there in 1849 and 1850.
As a photographer, Auguste Salzmann specialized in the recording of monuments and architecture of the Middle East, producing salted paper prints. Auguste Salzmann has had several gallery and museum exhibitions, including at the Alan Klotz Gallery and at the National Gallery of Canada.
