He received an architectural training at the University of Pennsylvania and in European schools
Mr. Allen worked as architectural draftsman for a few years in New York. In 1905 he moved to Joplin where he established a home and office. In practice for only a short time (1905-17) before his early death, Mr. Allen was known to have designed a number of important buildings in Joplin. He also maintained an office in Kansas City, and divided his time between the two cities.
