Career

married second, Myrtle Oldham, 1911 (deceased March 1946). Paid way through schools by preaching in Texas and Kentucky. Ordained ministry Southern Baptist Church, 1893.

Pastor successively Corinth, Mississippi, Woodlawn Church, Birmingham, Gaston Avenue Church, Dallas, First Church, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, First Church, Jonesboro, Arkansas, until 1922. Superintendent department of church extension Baptist Home Mission Board, 1922-1923. Again pastor First Church, Murfreesboro.

1923-1927; executive secretary Executive Committee Southern Baptist Convention, 1927-1946, retired as executive secretary emeritus.
