Harrow; subsequently privately at the Universities of Lausanne, Marburg, Berlin. On leaving school entered city, then studied (for diplomatic service) languages and history in Germany, France, Switzerland, and Spain.
Went to Berlin as second correspondent of The Times, thence for the Morning Post to Vienna, returning to Berlin in charge of Reuter’s Agency, during which period (5 years) was sent as special correspondent to various places. Was in Russia as special correspondent (1905) during troubles following Bloody Sunday. Late literary editor of The 899 Observer, and dramatic critic of the Daily Mail. Editor of The English Review since 1910.
