Lord, Austin Willard was born on June 27, 1860 in Rolling Stone, Minnesota, United States. Son of Orville M. and Martha Elizabeth (Deming) Lord.

Education

Graduated from State Normal School, Winona, 1881. In architects’ offices at Winona, Minneapolis and St. Paul, 1881-1884. Special course Massachusetts Institute Technology, 1884-1885.

Took Rotch scholarship, 1888 (2 years abroad). Director American School at Rome, 1894-1896.

Career

Architect to Isthmian Canal Commission, 1912. Professor architecture and director School of Architecture, Columbia University, 1912-1915.
