Career
1883-1899 worked as rural hygienist in Ukraine and Bessarabia. 1898 defended doctor’s thesis on the epidemiology of diphtheria. 1899-1904 health officer, 1904-1907 head, Health Department, Kiev Town Council.
1907 dismissed for political reasons. 1903-1918 associate professor Chair of Hygiene, Kiev University.
During this period did research on the relationship between wars and epidemics, the role of the state in the health service and various problems of epidemiology and hygiene. After 1917 October Revol dean, Medical Faculty and head Chair of Hygiene, Kiev University.
1927-1934 member, All-Ukraine Central Executive Committee. 1928-1933 secretary, Ukraine Academy of Sciences. During Soviet period did research on health statistics, the working conditions of miners and the classification and nomenclature of diseases, compiling first nomenclature in Ukraine.
