Avner Greif, economics professor. Achievements include research in economic history; use of game theory and other modelling techniques to demonstrate the connection of random beliefs, institutions and social ties to cultural norms of trust and reciprocity in order to understand the conditions leading to social conflict and cooperation. MacArthur fellow John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, 1998.
Education
Greif received his Doctor of Philosophy in Economics at Northwestern University, where Joel Mokyr acted as his supervisor, in 1989 and started his career at Stanford University in 1989 until he received tenure in 1994.
