Babaloo attended the New York Institute of Technology, before leaving for Hollywood in 1972.
Babaloo Mandel is a screenwriter and television producer. He is an executive producer with Lowell Ganz of television programs, including "Gung Ho", ABC, 1986; (and creator) "Channel 99", CBS, 1988; "Knight and Daye", NBC, 1989; and "Parenthood", NBC, 1990. He was also creative consultant with Ganz for "Take Five" (also known as Kooper with a âKâ), CBS, 1987. He has appeared on screen in "Splash", Buena Vista, 1984, and in the television documentary "Naked Hollywood", Arts and Entertainment, 1991.
Mandel and Ganz also wrote for the television series "Laverne & Shirley". They were the screenwriters for the 1992 sports movie "A League of Their Own", directed by "Laverne" (Penny Marshall).
Mandel won the National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Screenplay for "Splash". Mandel, Ganz, Friedman and Grazer were also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen. Besides, Mandel was one of the "winners" of the 1992 Razzie for Worst Screenplay for The Flintstones.
Babaloo married Denise Madelyn (Horn) in 1974. They have six children: Joshua, Jesse, Jason, Jake, Jamie, Julie.
