He has been elected in 10 Assembly elections from the seat of Govindpura in Bhopal. He has been living in Bhopal since his childhood. Shri Gaur"s educational qualification is Bachelor. Bachelor of Laws He is cabinet minister in the Bharatiya Janata Party-governed Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, as home minister he is responsible for law and order.
He has previously been Chief Minister of the state, between August 2004 and November 2005.
He comes from the Ahir community. In June 2014, after the 2014 Badaun gang rape, he said: "This is a social crime which depends on men and women.
Sometimes it"s right, sometimes it"s wrong". The Bharatiya Janata Party dismissed his comments as being his personal opinion rather than those of the party.
In June 2015, when asked about so many deaths in the Vyapam scam, Babulal Gaur said there is no need of a China, Burma, India Theatre of Operations probe.
By saying "All deaths are natural deaths" he ruled out any China, Burma, India Theatre of Operations probe. On 29th June 2015, Gaur gave another controversial statement: "Drinking is a fundamental right and it is a status symbol too".
