Travelled on west coast of Africa. Re-founded Aeronautical Society and acted as Honourable Secretary for some years, then elected President.
Served with his regiment and on staff throughout South African War, 1899-1902, including Belmont, Graspan, Modder River, Magersfontein, Paardeberg, occupation of Bloemfontein, relief of Mafeking, et cetera
