Baldomero Sanín Cano was born on June 27, 1861 in Rionegro to Baldomero Sanin and Juana Francisca Cano.
Baldomero began his long intellectual life in 1880 as a school teacher, and after five years of exercise he moved to Bogotá, where he collaborated in the newspaper La Luz as a commentator on literature and international relations.
Later he went on to write for La Nación as a critic of theater and literature. He was a personal friend of José Asunción Silva and a contemporary of Guillermo Valencia and Julio Flórez. In 1905 he was part of the National Assembly, as substitute for General Rafael Reyes, and between 1909 and 1927 he lived in London dedicated to teaching, research and translation, constituting a definitive period in his intellectual consolidation. In 1927 he returned to Colombia, in 1933 he was appointed ambassador to Argentina and in 1941 he was appointed rector of the Universidad del Cauca and began a long collaboration with the newspaper El Tiempo.
He died on May 12, 1957 in Bogotá, Colombia.
