Barbara Beatty

Mrs. Beatty was born in Palo Alto, California, United States, on March 7, 1946. She was a daughter of Shelton L. (a college professor and dean) and Caroline (a college professor; maiden name, Burtis) Beatty.

Education

Barbara Beatty graduated from Radcliffe College with Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude) in 1968 and from Harvard University with Master of Education in 1973 and Doctor of Education in 1981.

Career

Mrs. Beatty was a kindergarten teacher at public schools in Boston, MA, during 1968-1972. From 1973 to 1981 she served as an assistant professor of education at Lesley College, Cambridge, MA. Mrs. Beatty was an administrative director of Lesley Ellis School between 1973 and 1978. During 1981-1994 she worked as an assistant professor at Wellesley College, Wellesley, MA. Since 1994 she was an associate professor of education and department head during 1988-1989 and 1995-1996, head of Campus Task force on Minority Retention at he same college from 1988 to 1992.

Since 1973 Mrs. Beatty became a coordinator of child care project at Education Development Center (Newton, MA). Starting from 1985 Barbara Beatty acted as a college coordinator at Boston Higher Education Compact. During 1984-1989 she was a member of board of directors of Mason-Rice Afterschool Program, vice-president in 1986-1987 and president in 1987-1988. Barbara Beatty was a member of board of managers of Sophia Snow House at Roxbury Home for Aged Women during 1980-1989.
