Barbara Lee Bishop completed a bachelor's degree in art and education at Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia (1960), and an Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Graphic Arts at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro (1962). She also studied at the American Center for Students and Artists in Paris and at Columbia University in New York (1968-1969).
Barbara Lee Bishop has been teaching at Longwood College since 1965, first as an associate professor, and since 1970 as chairman of the Art Department; she served as administrative director of its Fine Arts Center. Previously Barbara Lee Bishop was chairman of the Art Department at Southern Seminary Junior College in Buena Vista, Virginia (1962-1965).
Barbara Lee Bishop was working in SX-70 format. Her images generally consisted of photo collages, and she also uses photography in photo-etching and silkscreen.
