Personal life and early work
She took voice lessons with Margaret Riddleberger. After college Walsh worked in dinner theatre and summer stock in Warsaw, Indiana. She performed in Forbidden Broadway in the mid-1980s.
She later reprised this role for the show"s national tour in 1994.
Walsh also appeared on Broadway in Nine (1982) as Francesca, Rock "North Roll! The First 5,000 Years (1982), Blood Brothers (1993) as Mistress Lyons, Big (1996) as Mistress
Baskin, and Hairspray (2002) as Velma Von Tussle. This production was taped for television and aired on Public Broadcasting Service in February 2008.
Her Office-Broadway credits include Birds of Paradise (1987), Stars in Your Eyes (1999) and the Transport Group musical Normal (2005).
In 2015, she appeared in Michael John LaChiusa"s First Daughter Suite at The Public Theater, playing the role of Pat Nixon. Regionally, Walsh has been seen in A Little Night Music as Desirée Armfeldt, (2008 Center Stage, Baltimore, Maryland), The Most Happy Fella, Houdini (1997 Goodspeed), Exactly Like You (Goodspeed), and A Streetcar Named Desire, and Master Class (Paper Mill Playhouse, 2009) among others Walsh replaced Donna Bullock in the role of "Mother" in the Chicago Cast of Ragtime.
Walsh"s television credits include guest roles on Law & Order, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and the re-occurring role of Judy Schulman-Brown on One Life to Live.
Walsh also appeared in the film Life with Mikey.

She received a Tony Award nomination, a Drama Desk Award nomination, and a Los Angeles Ovation Award for the role. She played the role of Joanne in the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Stephen Sondheim"s Company (2006), for which she received a Drama Desk Award nomination.
