Decorated cross chevalier Legion of Honor (France); recipient Civic Merit award Junior Association Commerce, Chicago, 1934; Chicago Civil Liberties Committee award for distinguished service in defense of democracy, 1939; Decalogue Society of Lawyers award of merit for distinguished services, 1941.


Hodes, Barnet was born on May 13, 1900 in La Salle, Illinois, United States. Son of Simon and Ruth (Mansfield) Hodes.

Began legal practice in Chicago, 1921. Assistant Corporate Counsel City Chicago, 1923-1937. Private practice, 1927-1933.

Alderman 7th Ward, 1931-1933. Member Illinois Tax Commission, 1933-1935. Corporate Counsel of Chicago, 1935-1947.
