He lives in Charlottesville, Virginia. Schwartz is the lead author of High Performance MySQL, 2nd and 3rd educated (published 2008 and 2012, O"Reilly).
He contributed a chapter to Web Operations (published 2010, O"Reilly).
He has released a set of templates to monitor MySQL under Cacti. He developed and maintains Innotop, an open source interactive monitoring tool for MySQL and InnoDB.
