Career
Was the lieutenant treasurer, accountant and interim governor of Florida (between 1595 and 1597), ruling with Alonso de las Alas and Juan Menéndez Márquez. He was the lieutenant treasurer of the governor Pedro Menéndez de Márquez (who ruled between 1577 - 1594). In 1586, during the government of Pedro Menéndez, the English pirate Francis Drake attacked Saint Augustine, the capital of Florida, and his raid caused the burn of many documents (including account records), so Argüelles had to make a new inventory to reflect all that still, after the fire, remained in Florida.
