Riedel played for three teams during the 1996-1997 ECHL season. After brief stops in Huntington and Wheeling, Riedel signed with the Johnstown Chiefs on December 30, 1996. Riedel broke the Chiefs single-game save record by recording 61 saves in a game against the Louisville Riverfrogs in March 1997, a record that he would hold for seven seasons.
David Currie broke the record in April 2004 with a 62 save performance against the Reading Royals
Riedel is the owner of Rock Bottom Hard Landscaping, a custom landscaping company that was established in 1998 in his hometown of Calgary.
As a member of the Chiefs, Riedel signed a tryout contract with the Hershey Bears of the AHL on January 29, 1997, but did not see any ice time with the team
