Early work was concentrated on urban and regional economics, with statistical and econometric applications to forecasting, resource allocation and manpower utilisation. Completed the first major research study for St Louis’ economic structure, entitled An Interindustrial Structure Analysis: An Input-Output Model for St. Louis SMSA. This study received the study award from the American Industrial Development Council in 1969 and later it has been used for regional planning, economic impact assessment, manpower needs forecasting, and other purposes in the region. My interest in the quality of life production and social indicator development began in 1972 when I joined the Midwest Research Institute and received a grant from the Kerr Foundation for an inter-state comparison study on the inter-regional inequality of social well-being.
Based on the national goals and objectives set forth by the President Eisenhower’s Commission, I developed a relatively sophisticated Quality of Life Production (QOL) Model with inputs from psychological and physiological considerations on components affecting our perceived happiness and satisfaction. The QOL model was further modified and expanded in 1975 with the publication of Quality of Life Indicators in United States Metropolitan Areas and a score of journal articles later for intertemporal and international QOL comparative analysis.
Applied econonometrics to energy and environmental issues and studies and published books, Nos. 3 and 4, above. Both are pioneer work in the field of energy and environmental economics.
Empirical work and research studies concerning water pollution and health cost-containment were also launched for public and private agencies. Developed benefit/cost crossimpact probabilistic approach for risk or impact analyses and consulted on
management information systems for United Nations member countries and international agencies. More recently, efforts have been given to academic institutions in programme development and curriculum assignment.
