Career
He ruled for a brief period between 1953 and 1955, when he was enthroned by the French as a replacement of Mohammed V. This move was seen by the Moroccan public as humiliation and resulted in widespread violence until Mohammed V was resorted to his throne. Mohamed Ben Arafa was a nephew of Hassan I, after his abdication he retired in Tangiers then settled in Nice, France where he lived until his death in 1976.
