This major retrospective of the work of Ben Jones features a complete survey of the artist's work, dating from the mid 1970s through his most recent paintings. "Deliverance" explores various aspects of the artist's body of work, and delves further into its close relationship to religions of the African diaspora. Many of the artist's key works are in the exhibition, including the iconic Black Face and Arm Unit, from 1971 (State Museum, Trenton). Organized by independent curator Ed Spriggs, whose relationship with Mr. Jones dates back to the early 1970s, when he was director at the Studio Museum in Harlem and Ben Jones was exhibiting his work there, this survey is an unprecedented examination of this important American artist's work. This lush exhibition catalog features 29 full-color and 20 black and white reproductions - many which have never before been published - of the artist's most significant works. With essays by Edward Spriggs, Kellie Jones, Ph.D., Associate Professor of African American, African Diaspora, and Latin American art at Columbia University; and a dialogue with the artist by Alejandro Anreus, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Art History and Latin American Studies at William Paterson University, this publication promises to be a substantial and scholarly catalogue that will serve as a document of, and create access to, Ben Jones's significant body of work. Career
And The Rifle Volunteers. He has released two completely solo albums, as well as albums with , and The Rifle Volunteers. His most recent release is as part of the duo, , with Andrea Magee In 1995 he began playing the guitar, having taught himself, and has obsessively picked up a few more instruments along the way.
His first band, "" made one self-titled, self released album in 2005. He formed in 2009, recording two LPs and an EP, They toured the UK and America in 2010. This was followed by 2 solo albums, "", and "", before forming a new band, and The Rifle Volunteers, releasing 2 albums together.
In 2014, undertaking a 3 month solo tour of the USA, Ben joined another singer/songwriter, Andrea Magee, to form. They released their debut album, "Waiting on A Miracle", on Toulouse Records in December 2014. "" was Ben's first solo album, played and produced by him alone.
It was recorded at Ranscombe Studios, Rochester, Kent. It featured 12 songs, and was reviewed highly favourably by BBC Introducing, citing it as "an undeniable triumph for a multitalented musician". It was re-released on Toulouse Records in 2014.
Ben's second solo album, , featured 11 new songs and was self released in 2011, before being re-released by Toulouse Records in 2014.
