Wilson joined Blues Traveler in January 2000 following the death of longtime bassist Bobby Sheehan in August 1999. He auditioned for the band after seeing an ad in Keyboard Magazine. Prior to Blues Traveler, he spent thirteen years with the Michigan-based jump blues band Big Dave and the Ultrasonics.
