Background

He was born in Nitra (Czechoslovakia).

Education

He received his M. A. in 1965, and in 1969 his Doctor of Philosophy at University of Yale.

Career

Since 1995 he has been President of the International Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East.

Achievements

• He has been a Professor of History at Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he was also founder of their School of History, since 1986, and was awarded Professor Emeritus status in 2007.
