The youth received a formal education at the Yale University, graduated in 1870, and for three subsequent years studied architecture in Paris.
After returning to this country Mr. Sullivan started practice in New York with the firm of Vaux, Withers & Company, later carried on his work alone. He was architect of the Temple Court and the Morse Office Building, the first the most successful of several buildings designed by him during a brief career.
