Assistant engineer United States Navy, June 10, 1881. Passed assistant engineer, October 3, 1891. Chief engineer, January 20, 1899.

Transferred to line as Lieutenant, March 3, 1899. Promoted through grades to rear admiral. Retired August 16, 1922.
