Bachelor of Science, United States Naval Academy, 1909. Graduated from the United States Naval War College, 1932.


Commissioned ensign, United States Navy, 1909, and advanced through the grades to commodore. Served in Atlantic and Asiatic waters. 1909-1915; in radio and communication matters, Navy Department, Washington, District of Columbia, 1915-1917, 1926-1929, 1932-1934.

In destroyers and battleships, 1917-1921, cruisers, 1923-1926, 1934-1936, 1938-1940. Governor and commandant, Guam, 1936-1938. Captain of yard, Norfolk Navy Yard, 1940-1943.

Commander Moroccah Sea Frontier Forces, 1943-1945.
