Mitchell, McNutt, Threadgill, Smith & Sams was founded in Tupelo in 1902 by Guy Mitchell, Sr. In 1990, the firm combined with Threadgill, Smith, Sanders & Jolly of Columbus (founded in 1949) and Wendell Trapp of Corinth to create Mississippi's largest law firm outside of Jackson. To meet the needs of many clients the firm opened an Oxford office in 1992, a Memphis office in 1993, and a Jackson office in 1994.
