To Marquis of Salisbury, 1878- 1880. Private Secretary to Earl of Rldesleigh, 1885-1886. To Marquis of Salisbury, 1SS7-92, and 1895- 1900.

To Marquis of Lansdowne, 1900-1905. Assistant Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, 1906. Retired from Foreign Office, 1907.
