Zuel has written for Fairfax Media newspapers The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald since 1992. As of August 2013, he is the senior music writer and reviewer for Fairfax Media. Zuel is a judge of the Australian Music Prize award.
Andre Bernard Zuel was born on 21 January 1965 in Rose-Hill, Mauritius.
His father, Andre Cyril Zuel (born 4 November 1939), was from Curepipe and his mother, Marie Irelande (born 11 August 1938) was from Quatre Bornes. His family relocated to Australia by the early 1970s and settled in Sydney.
