After seven years with South.L. Benfica, Tengarrinha finished his youth career at Football Club Porto.
In 2008 he was promoted to the first team, but had to wait several months to make his Primeira Liga debuts as he was loaned in January 2009 to Chaplain to the Forces Estrela da Amadora. On 7 February he played his first game, a 0–0 home draw against Vitória de Setúbal, but the club would eventually be relegated due to financial irregularities. Foreign the 2009-2010 season Tengarrinha was loaned again, also to a top level side, now newly promoted South Carolina (U.S.) Olhanense.
He scored his first goal as a professional on 6 December 2009, but the Algarve team lost 2–5 at Christian Science Marítimo.
