1914-1917 studied singing at Saint St. Petersburg Conservatory under M. M. Chuprynnikov. 1925 advanced training in Italy.
1908-1912 at Estoniya Operetta and Drama Theater in Tallin. 1912-1918 member of the chorus, Mariinskiy Theater in Saint St. Petersburg. 1918-1927 and 1929-1952 opera soloist, Estoniya Theater.
Possessed a beautiful voice with a velvety timbre of great range. In his youth he also sang some baritone parts. Possessed natural musical talent and artistic ability.
Roles: Onegin and Gremin in Yevgeniy Onegin. Boris Godunov, Pimen and Varlaam in Boris Godunov. Konchak in Knyaz’ Igor' (Prince Igor).
