Education
1914-1917 studied singing at Saint St. Petersburg Conservatory under M. M. Chuprynnikov. 1925 advanced training in Italy.
Career
1908-1912 at Estoniya Operetta and Drama Theater in Tallin. 1912-1918 member of the chorus, Mariinskiy Theater in Saint St. Petersburg. 1918-1927 and 1929-1952 opera soloist, Estoniya Theater.
Possessed a beautiful voice with a velvety timbre of great range. In his youth he also sang some baritone parts. Possessed natural musical talent and artistic ability.
Roles: Onegin and Gremin in Yevgeniy Onegin. Boris Godunov, Pimen and Varlaam in Boris Godunov. Konchak in Knyaz’ Igor' (Prince Igor).
Germon in ”Louisiana Traviata”. Falstaff in Nicolai’s "The Merry Wives of Windsor”. Simone Boccanegra in Verdi’s opera of the same name.
Don Basilio in ’’The Barber of Seville”. Vakho in Aav’s Vikertsy (The Men of Viker). Ako in Vedro's Kaupo.
