Bertin Nahum holds an Engineering Degree from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (Institut National des Sciences Appliquées, Lyon, France) and a Master of Science in Robotics from Coventry University (United Kingdom).
After his studies, he decided to go into the field of medical engineering. He has held various management positions in renowned companies specialized in surgical robotics:
Computer Motion Incorporated. (cardiac surgery, urology, etc)
Integrated Surgical System Incorporated.
(orthopedic surgery)
IMMI Société Anonyme (neurosurgery)
Following these field experiences, including in operating rooms, Bertin Nahum founded the company in 2002.
Located near Montpellier, in Castelnau-le-Lez (Hérault department, in southern France), designs, develops and markets the latest generation of robotic assistance for surgical procedures of the central nervous system. In 2006, Zimmer, the world leader in orthopedic implants, bought BRIGIT™’s entire patent portfolio. decided to reinvest those resources in the development of a new robotic-assisted technology.
’s first ROSA™ robot, ROSA Brain, dedicated to neurosurgery, is then designed. Comparable to a "Global Positioning System" for the brain, the robot can be used for any type of cranial procedures requiring surgical planning with preoperative data, patient’s registration and precise positioning and handling of instruments.
Pathologies covered by the use of ROSA™ Brain are among others epilepsy, Parkinson"s disease, generalized dystonia, cavernoma, hydrocephalus.
The ROSA™ Brain device is present in 23 hospitals across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East and has been used in more than 1 100 surgical procedures. Since late 2011, has continued innovating, through a project dedicated to spine surgery, the minimally invasive spine surgery robotic assistant ROSA Spine. In November 2013, the Park Clinic (Clinipole Group, Castelnau-le-Lez, South of France) acquired the very first ROSA Spine system.
In July 2014, announced the Civil Engineering Marking of its new product ROSA Spine, which allows its marketing in Europe.
On November the 28th of 2013, was listed in the Paris market operated by Euronext (New York Stock Exchange Euronext, compartment C). In September 2012, Bertin Nahum classified 4th in top 10 of the most Revolutionary High-Technical Entrepreneurs in the ranking of the Canadian magazine Discovery Series, positioning just behind Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and James Cameron.
Among the criteria used by Discovery Series in this classification, entrepreneurs had to make breakthrough innovations, to think beyond what most people consider possible and create innovations that improve people’s lives. was elected Frost & Sullivan’s European Company of the Year for surgical robotics in 2013.
