He was educated at St. Johnsbury's Academy.
He began architectural training in the Boston office of the firm of Ober & Rand. Employed later as draftsman, Taylor was privileged to attend special classes for students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and after the senior member of the firm retired, Mr. Taylor became a junior partner. One of his first important works under the firm name during the late nineties, was of altering and enlarging Boston's old Vendome Hotel.
In the early 1900’s Mr. Taylor joined Henry H. Kendall in organizing the firm of Kendall, Taylor & Company, and in the following years established a reputation in hospital work. Among the important buildings designed under die firm name were the State Hospital at Westboro, Mass., the City and Homeopathic Hospitals in Boston; Corey Hill Hospital Boston; Newton, Mass., City Hospital; New Hampshire Hospital for the Insane; State School at Wrentham, Mass., Hospital for the insane at Worcester, Mass., Hitchcock Hospital, Hanover, (Plymouth County), Mass., the Anna Jacques Hospital at Newburyport, and numerous smaller hospitals throughout New England.
In addition to work under the firm name, Mr. Taylor independently designed many of the buildings for the Dwight L. Moody schools at Northfield, Mass., and in another period collaborated with James L. Tufts in laying-out and building the Model Town of Pinehurst, North Carolina.
A long-time member of the Boston Society of Architects, A.I.A. and a Fellow of the Institute, Mr. Taylor maintained a high professional standing throughout his years of practice.
