Beverly Eileen Crane was born on July 11, 1943, in Pasadena, California, United States. She is a daughter of William C. and Dolores A. Foust.
In 1965 Beverly Eileen Crane received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Education in 1980. In 1985 she obtained a Doctor of Education degree from Oklahoma State University.
From 1967 to 1970 Beverly Eileen Crane was a theme reader at Upper Moreland Junior High School in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and Wissahickon High School in Ambler, Pennsylvania. From 1978 to 1980 she was a teacher at the State College Area School District in State College, Pennsylvania.
From 1981 to 1985 she was a lecturer in English department at Pennsylvania State University. From 1985 to 1988 Crane was a lecturer in English department at Oklahoma State University and an educational technology specialist in Bilingual Education Multifunctional Resource Center from 1986 to 1988. From 1988 to 1993 she served as a lecturer in English and English as a second language (ESL) departments at San Jose State University (SJSU) and a coordinator of English (teacher) education program from 1993 to 1998.
She conducted workshops for K-12 teachers on such topics as literacy, writing and the writing process, ESL and integrating technology into the curriculum. She also created educational materials and conducted workshops for K-12 library media specialists and teachers on using online searching in the curriculum. She presented throughout the United States across curriculum areas at conferences.
As director of the English Education Program at San Jose State University for five years, she worked closely with classroom teachers and administrators to provide guidelines for mentor teachers supervising English student teachers at SJSU. She creates training materials, including distance education online courses and self-paced module in searching techniques for Dialog and is editor of the Dialog customer e-newsletters. She has published more than five books.
