Involved in Students’ Union activities from school days. Assistant General Secretary, JB College Students’ Union, 1955-1956. Actively involved in Assam movement against foreign nationals since 1979.

Jailed on a number of occasions, 1980-1982. Externed to deep forest of Bhalukpung near Assam-Arunachal border, 1981. Associated with Praja Socialist Party, 1965-1977.

Vice-President, All Assam Moina Parijat, 1969-1971. Secretary, District Mahila Saniti, Mangaldai, 1969-1975. President, District Moina Parijat, Mangaldai, 1970-1973.

District President, Mangaldai, Harijan Santha, 1975-1985. District Secretary, Janata Party, Mangaldai Branch, 1977-1978. Adviser, All Assam Mahila Parishad, 1985-1986.
