He received his Bachelor in management and recreation from Eckerd College in Saint St. Petersburg, Florida in 1976. During his career in professional baseball, he hit 11 home runs in 274 games, walked 161 times in four years, and struck out 113 times. In 2005, he was named the Tampa Bay Devil Rays bench coach.
Evers has compiled a 1,381-1,206 (534) record, which is the second most wins among active minor league managers.
Evers did not return for the 2008 season. He was replaced by former Devil Ray player Dave Martinez.
