William "Billy" Gore born in Blaina, was a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league football player of the 1940s, playing representative level rugby union for Wales, and at club level for Newbridge Reconstruction Finance Corporation, as a Hooker, id est (that is) number 2, and playing club level rugby league for Warrington, as a hooker, id est (that is) number 9, during the era of contested scrums, he died in Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny.
Career
Billy Gore was the son of the rugby union and rugby league football player Jack Gore. Billy Gore worked as a foundryman while playing for Newbridge Reconstruction Finance Corporation, He became a licensee, he was a lifelong Labour Party supporter, and was elected as a Councillor, later became chairman of Gwent County Council, and Mayor of Nantyglo.
