In 1919-1929 Birendra Nath was a consulting engineer in London. In 1929-1945 - chief engineer, special officer & engineering adviser in Calcutta corporation. Since 1945 he was practicing as a consulting engineer. In 1953-1956 he worked for the Government of West Bengal as engineering adviser. In 1954-1957 he was a technical consultant & planning adviser in Calcutta Corporation.
He also was an Indian delegate to First World Metallurgical Congress, U.S.A. (1951); Guest of All-China Federation of Scientific Societies (1955) & All Soviet Union Council of Technological Scientific Societies (1957).
