Since 1997, Abernethy has served as the executive editor and host of Religion & Ethics Newsweekly, which airs on Public Broadcasting Service. Bob Abernethy received his bachelor"s and master"s degrees from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. Foreign more than 40 years, he worked as a correspondent for National Broadcasting Company News. Abernethy provided memorable coverage of the arrival at Andrews Air Force Base of the body of President John F. Kennedy upon its arrival from Dallas in 1963.
He also anchored the network"s coverage of the Northeast blackout of 1965 from its Washington News Bureau.
Foreign much of his network news career, he covered the United States. Congress and legislative politics. In the early 1960s, he was host of National Broadcasting Company"s news magazine "Update", a weekly feature which explained the news of the day to its target audience, young people in their teens, originating from Washington, District of Columbia, airing on Saturday afternoons for several years.
