Career
His five world slalom records, coupled with five world slalom titles, rank LaPoint as one of the most successful slalom skiers of all time. In 1993 at the inaugural "Water versus Snow" competition, LaPoint bested three worthy adversaries to claim the title during a made-for-television format event consisting of slalom waterskiing and downhill racing.
In 1980, LaPoint became the first skier to make a perfect pass on an 11.25-meter line (38 feet off) in a Record Capability tournament at the McCormick World Record Challenge in Seffner, Florida.
