Bocho Yamamura was born on 10 January 1884 in Takasaki, Gunma, Japan.
Bocho Yamamura graduated from St. San-ichi Theological School in 1899.
Upon completing his studies, Bocho Yamamura became a Christian preacher. He gained the public's attention thanks to his acutely sensitive poetry. Suffering from tuberculosis, out of work, and living a sad vagabond life, Bocho Yamamura kept writing poetry, fairy tales and songs for children with a humanity-filled, warm style.
In his last years, he composed a number of simply-worded and yet highly inspirational odes to Nature. Also Bocho Yamamura was a teacher at a primary school. Began taking part m missionary work (1904) and also contributed poems to Shirayuri magazine and soon became popular. Among his works are Sannin-no-Shojo (Three Maidens) and Yoshikiri (An Oriole).
