Background
Bokudo Tachibana was born in about 1700 in Komatsu (Ishikawa Prefecture), Japan. He had a younger brother Hokushi.

He was originally a sharpener of swords in Kanazawa. Later he became a disciple of Basho Matsuo in 1687 and though he was brilliant he was not as good as his younger brother Hokushi.
