This report correlates experimental data obtained with a burning rate bomb with the data obtained from the firing of rocket charges, and obtaining burning rate curves for new propellants where insufficient data exists. A comparison is made among Thiokol LP3 for the fuel, and potassium perchlorate and ammonium perchlorate, separately and in combination, for the oxidizer. Potassium perchlorage gives the fastest burn rate, and ammonium perchlorate alone gave the slowest. An investigation was also made on the coning of solid propellant charges, where wide deviation in burn rates exists between the center of the propellant grain and the edge of the motor case. There were also studies of restricting materials. This is an excellent text for learning how to characterize and select propellant formulations, with much vital data on both KClO4 and NH4ClO4 oxidizers. A superb book for the amateur experimental rocket scientist and engineer. Very hard to find, and long out of print.
