Instructor in old testament and Hebrew Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, 1969-1971, assistant professor old testament and Hebrew, 1972-1977, associate professor old testament and Hebrew, 1977-1987, professor old testament and Hebrew, since 1987.

Chairman old testament department Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, since 1989, chairman division Biblical Studies, since 1992, associate dean Doctor of Philosophy program, since 1998.
