Career
1910 began working at Mariinskiy Theater. Altough essentially a realist in approach, his designs at the Pctrograd Academy Theater of Drama in the 1920's showed his predilection for the ’’psychological grotesque,” c.g., sets for Sukhovo-Kobylin’s Smert' Tarelkina (Tarelkin’s Death) (19181, Dyadyushkm son (Uncle’s Dream), after Dostoyevsky (1923). Designed sets for many other theaters.
His works were marked by a graphic approach, clear, calm and expressive composition and a brilliant command of perspective.
